The number of foreign students studying in Turkey is increasing proportionally with increasing number of universities. Of course, the convenience provided by YÖK to foreign nationals has a large share in this. Statistics for the period 2018-2019 the number has not yet been published but are unable 2017-2018 school year, according to statistics, there were 125.138 foreign students in Turkey.

A total of 125,138 foreign students are 81,783 males and 43,355 females.

The city with the highest number of foreign students is naturally Istanbul with 35,735 (22,083 male, 13,652 female) students. In Istanbul, Syria naturally ranks first with 4393 students. Then there are 2933 Azeri, 2646 Iranians, 1845 Turkmenistan nationals, 1468 German nationals, 1142 Chinese, 1081 Jordanians, 1078 Egyptian, 1014 Afghan students.
