INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY SECTOR

It is the fact that Turkey’s next whole concentration will be on technology and innovation because in the process that starts with R&D, technology improves and this is reflected in increasing production as an increase in quality and productivity. In this field, nanotechnology, genetics or biotechnology, new generation nuclear fuels and technologies; Production of superconductors with hydrogen and fuel cell technologies will come to the forefront.

EDUCATION

The changing economy and changing competition in every field, from technical education to agriculture to the transformation of migrants, requires appropriate production, R&D and qualified manpower. Sectors will either train their own personnel or have others to do this job, that is, they will set their standards, order and buy. Vocational education in this field is expected to deepen. Lifelong continuous education (for non-employees), vocational training (for intermediate staff) and in-service training (for employee development), distance education (independent of time and place) will gain importance.

ENERGY and NATURAL RESOURCES

Energy sector will grow exponentially both in the world and in Turkey. It is estimated that energy consumption in Turkey will grow more than twice the world average. Assuming that an annual growth will be around 3-4 percent in the next 10 years in the global economy, the energy sector will be the main parameter that will determine growth and welfare. According to calculations, Turkey needs to do to close the gap for the full $ 130 billion investment in the energy sector.

AUTOMOTIVE

It is considered the most competitive and rapidly rising industry in Turkey in recent years. Exports increased by 33.8 percent in 2007 compared to 2006, while the increase in imports remained at the level of 8.7 percent. So Turkey gave the trade surplus in automotive. Turkey must maintain this momentum it gained in the automotive industry, and will continue to invest in long-term employment. Although there are short-term pauses due to economic crises, this sector will continue to be one of the leading sectors for our country in the long run.

TEXTILE

Nearly 2/3 of the world textile industry is under the control of China so the export seizure of Turkey’s textile and garment sector is physically reduced. However, the quality, speed, ability to respond to specific demands in tight spaces, flexibility, proximity to EU markets etc. thanks to these advantages Turkey is still maintaining its position as a global actor in this sector. Although the textile sector in our country has short-term problems with the exchange rates, in the long term, large companies will survive, although they may shake a little, but small companies may suffer.

TELECOMMUNICATION

The sector will enter into a serious growth with new players within 15 years. Subcontractors will develop as well as large companies. In the telecom sector, mostly GSM companies were at the forefront, but the sector will draw a different picture in the next 15 years. Alternative telecom operators will go into great leap forward. Foreign companies in our country in the field of telecommunication will send more Turkish employees to work abroad.

DEFENSE and AVIATION TECHNOLOGIES

The annual integrity of the defense industry in the world is 1.3 trillion dollars. The USA alone covers half of this. Turkey’s some companies such as Aselsan, Roketsan, HAVELSAN, KALE Defense Industry began to get a share of this market. Thanks to breakthroughs in recent years, Turkey has supplied arms industry needs of 45 percent from local brands. It is predicted that companies such as TEI, TAI and Alp Aviation, which produce parts for the aircraft, helicopter and aviation industry, will perform important tasks in the future.

ELECTRONIC

The electronics industry will take a big lead in retailing. The number of companies engaged in retailing will gradually increase. Foreign interest of giant electronic firms will make investments in Turkey.

TRANSPORTATION AND LOGISTICS

There is a huge boom in both air transport and logistics. It is seen that this is triggered by market-adapted reforms and tax incentives in our country. The first resting place of the sector, which has a size of around 17 billion dollars, will reach 40 billion dollars. Meanwhile, the shining star will be warehousing and entrepot. Foreign and domestic companies will get married. Road passenger transport will lose about 10 percent of its market share to air, iron and sea transport.

HEALTH

The target in the sector, whose size exceeds 25 billion dollars, is shown as 50 billion dollars for 10 years. Due to increasing per capita income and health awareness, doctor, per capita health and medicine expenditures will increase. New private hospitals, facilities and clinics will be opened. In the health sector, training will be on the agenda outside of the profession. In particular medical congress tourism will continue to be on the agenda of Turkey in the coming years.

CONSULTANCY

The increase in welfare and high income level resulting from the development of the manufacturing industry increases the importance of the service sector. Consulting, which is a branch of the service sector, will show rapid growth in personal and corporate areas. Technical, legal and financial consultancy will gain more importance. The importance of consultancy will increase in media monitoring, webometric evaluation, quality, e-government and certification services.

AGRICULTURE

The gap between the world’s population and food resources is increasing with each passing year. This endangers food supply security. Global warming, water scarcity, factors such as the reduction of agricultural areas in Turkey’s shining star in this area.
