Turkey is undergoing a major change in terms of higher education in the aspects of number of universities, academics and internationalisation. In the last 10 years, the number of international students studying at our higher education institutions has increased by 75 percent, and according to current figures, our country has become one of the countries that host the most international students in this field with approximately 148.000 international students. Additionally, 25.000 of them are studying by scholarships. Turkey aims to host 200.000 international students in 2023.
To the extent that the problems of our world today gain a universal quality that concerns all humanity, the aim of education is to raise generations that can find common solutions to the problems of all humanity. In this respect, it can be said that individuals who came together from different countries and cultures and received international education outside of their countries have a unique experience and gain different achievements.
From the point of view of the countries, today many countries in the World is taking the international student circulation seriously as competitive issue. Beside, the countries tries to gain many benefits through international education as economically, culturally, academically etc.
Turkey evaluate this international education issue as an important opportunity for bilateral relations to be established with other countries.
Turkey’s higher education internationalization work, basically is based on the following four principles:
1- Academic development and interaction
2- Economic development and solidarity
3- Social and cultural interaction
4- Developing political and diplomatic relations
